A composite element has the following structure : (a) 2- 20 mm metal; (b) 10-300 mm polyisocyanate polyaddition product obtained by reaction of (i) an MDI-isocyanate component of functionality =2 and (ii) an NCO-reactive compound; and (c) 2-20 mm metal. Independent claims are also included for (1) a composite as above but in which the polyaddition product has a density of 350-1100 kg/m3 and there is also present a blowing agent and/or 1-50 volume % of a gas; and (2) production of the element by bonding the polyisocyanate polyaddition product between the other 2 layers.
