Device for enabling single-hand operation of a measurement tape has a housing (1) with a pre-tensioned spring (3) and a gear with which the tape (7) can be driven in and out. Independent claims are also included for the following:- (a) a method for rolling a flexible tape in or out of its housing and; (b) an arrangement for rolling a flexible tape in or out of its housing.
