A protection element (4) with a recess (41) is mounted about a telescoping support (2) comprising of an inner pipe (21) and an outer pipe (23). The recess receives partially the outer pipe when the telescoping support is retracted. The diameter of the recess is larger than the outer diameter of the outer pipe.
