Process for evaluating a weld joint between two joining partners (1, 2) comprises: subjecting the joint to ultrasonic testing using longitudinal and transversal ultrasonic waves; registering time-dependent sound permeability changes in the longitudinal and transversal ultrasonic waves separately from one another; and determining a point in time at which a melt (11) forms in the area of the joint. Process for evaluating a weld joint formed during welding process between two joining partners (1, 2) comprises: subjecting the joint to ultrasonic testing using longitudinal and transversal ultrasonic waves, registering the time-dependent sound permeability changes in the longitudinal and transversal ultrasonic waves separately from one another, and determining a point in time at which a melt (11) forms in the area of the joint based on the ratio of the changes and using a basis for the evaluation of the weld joint.
