For the cleaning of gases escaping from a sewer shaft (1), which exit from a sewage pipe (8) guided in the floor (7) of the sewer shaft (1), by means of a biofilter, which is arranged in the sewer shaft (1) so that the gases pass through flow through it before it comes out of the sewer shaft (1), the biofilter is arranged in such a proximity to the waste water pipe (8) that its temperature and humidity are significantly influenced by the waste water (17) located in the waste water pipe (8).
