The temperature monitoring device (1) has a temperature-dependent bond between a microchip (3) coupled to the monitored item (2) and an electrical energy source, the microchip provided with at least one temperature sensor (8) and an evaluation circuit (12), storing the temperature status signal from the sensor in a data memory (15), for subsequent delivery to an output device (21). A voltage monitoring device (19) within the evaluation circuit compares the supply voltage from the energy source with a defined voltage range for provision of a fault signal stored in the data memory.
