The method for the manufacturing of a pipe element (1) subjected to vibrational stresses, and especially motor vehicles' exhaust pipes, from a preprofiled metal strip (2) which is wound in convolutions with bellows-shaped windings (4) entails preprofiling the strip with at least one riser offset from the plane and a deflection in the fashion of a circular track with member heights (h1,h2) of the bellows equalling a multiple of the strip thickness. The members (5a,5b) of the bellows are preprofiled, for example, with a height corresponding to 25 to 75 times the band thickness. An independent claim is included for a pipe element which is subjected to vibrational stresses and is especially an exhaust pipe of a motor vehicle.
