A general code area (6) stores application program including subroutine calls to a vector table area (5). The vector table area stores subroutine calls to a specific portion of a security code area (4) containing a security program. A processor (2) unlocks the security code area during execution of subroutine call from general code area to vector table area. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) memory architecture for smart card; and (2) method of executing security program while executing application program.
