The heater (1) may have a horizontal top edge, vertical sides and a bottom edge with a horizontal central part and upward-sloping side parts. The heater body has a flat front surface (2) a short distance in front of the flat rear surface (3). The heat source is a 300 W to 1000 W halogen strip lamp (4) accommodated in a chamber (5) at the bottom of the heater. Internal guide ribs direct the convective flow of oil as it rises from the heater and flows down the vertical edges of the heater body back to the bottom.
