Four different situations (I-IV) are drawn into quadrants for a system of coordinates. Transposition of 'faulty' (psi 2) and 'correct' (psi 1) corresponds to a reflection of a hatched area on a main diagonal. A fault is reliably identified if the average value of sensor rates differs in amount by the value of the physically correct rate (psi ). A fault recognition function identifies a fault in a sensor configuration. Fault thresholds are detected according to a fault recognition threshold function.
