A gas distributor (1) has a perforated curved surface with concave and convex sides (4, 5). Its edge conforms with the inner wall of the equipment (2) near the supply opening (3). The concave side faces and surrounds the supply opening (3) at the inner wall. The equipment is a cylindrical vessel with dished- or hemispherical ends (6), the opening (3) being in one of them. The distributor has a central flat end (7) and a peripheral region (8), in an overall blunt conical form. The perforations are holes or slots. Their open area ratio is greater in the central region (7) than in the peripheral region (8), being 2-20% and 4-40% respectively.
