An exceptional situation of the system (2) is iteratively diagnosed. A feature- and/or symptom-relevant analysis of the relevant diagnoses (1) is carried out. The diagnoses (1) which correspond with a feature (M1) and associated symptom (S1) causing a value (W1) departing from an expected result (Esoll) are issued. Now a further feature (M2) associated with a symptom (S2) and value (W2) departing from an expected result (Esoll) is identified and from the diagnoses (1) already issued, a diagnosis (1) is identified and issued which is associated with the further feature (M2). An Independent claim is included for corresponding computer-controlled diagnostic equipment.
