The device (1) for the cooling of charge air and exhaust gas of especially a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine (2) has the exhaust gas stream cooled by a first (6) and a second (7) heat exchanger, and the charge air stream cooled by a third heat exchanger (9), before the thus cooled exhaust gas stream and charge air stream are brought together. Alternatively, the exhaust gas stream can be cooled by a first heat exchanger, the cooled exhaust gas stream brought together with the charge air and then the mixed stream cooled by a second heat exchanger.
