Air filter for an IC engine comprises a metal-free filter insert in the form of a hollow cylinder. The filter medium (21) is held in place at one end by a plate (20) with axial gripping components (19) and at the opposite end by a hollow cylindrical collar (23) with a concentric sealing ring (24). An independent claim is included for a secondary filter for use with the unit which is designed in the same way as the main filter.
