The insert (100) has a cutting edge (122A,122D) formed from the intersection of the peripheral wall and top surface of a polygonal body made of a wear-resistant material. The top surface has a groove that tapers with a width increasing continuously along a side from one side corner (120A) to the adjacent side corner. The narrow end of the groove is closest the wide end of the neighboring groove. An independent claim is also included for a face milling cutter.
