Method for detecting the attachment of snow chains to motor vehicle wheels when the motor vehicle is equipped with measurement assembly for generating wheel velocity or acceleration signals. According to the method snow chains are detected as repeating patterns in the velocity and or acceleration signals and are detected using a computer process. The invention also relates to a corresponding program product.
