Arrangement for testing an optimal filling level in the drag buckets of bucket wheels that are used to transport a medium, e.g. a sand-water mixture. A position sensor (11) is provided that detects the entrance of a bucket into its spatial measurement region and is coupled to two filling level sensors (12, 13). When a bucket is detected the sensor emits beam-shaped measurement signals (12a, 13a) through the beaker opening in order to detect upper and lower limits for the optimum filling level. An Independent claim is made for a method for testing an optimal filling level in drag buckets of bucket scoop wheels.
