The linear guide device has a roller guide unit with rolling element rolling over a surface of the guide rail (14) on a fixed machine structure. The damping capacity of the roller guide section is increased by a brake device having a pair of brake jaws (22) which have a flexible structure and slide on the rolling face of the guide rail. An elastic element at the back of the jaw pre-stresses the corresponding brake jaw so that the jaw presses against the rolling face (19a,19b) of the guide rail.
