The safety protector which has a viewing window comprises telescopic elements (2) adjustable to the length of a drill (3) clamped in the tool socket and able to surround the drill on three sides. The protector is fixed on a tailstock flange (4) and can be pivoted sideways round the drill axis through hinges (5). The protector can be locked in the closed state by ratchet bolts (6) on the flange so that the telescopic protector is in active connection with the machine drive through an end switch. The height adjustable telescopic elements can be locked together.
