An endoscope observation unit observes a ring area using lenses (1, 4) with optical axes directed at parts of the ring with a rotating prism (5) or mirror coupling the rays to a single output optical axis (6) with illumination by switching between high power LEDs fed down a light guide (20, 22) for each zone.
