A sport and leisure shoe has a dampened heel with an insert (1) of a softer material than the remainder of the sole (2). The insert comprises a central cylinder surrounded by about eight smaller cylinders. The cylinders are set with axes perpendicular to a mounting plate and the whole assembly is injection moulded into a recess in the heel.
