An assembly has a cylindrical outer case with a screw thread (022) at each end and enclosing a line of permanent magnets (03) placed end to end. The cylindrical case has a screw-fit pipe fitting (05) at each end. The assembled unit (01) passes a fluid that is subjected to an intense magnetic field. The magnetic unit may be used in conjunction with other assemblies e.g. breathing air respirator.
