Plate-shaped modular sound absorber comprises a peripheral frame consisting of frame profiles (4) and sound-absorbing elements integrated in the frame and having a front plate or a front filling (32) on one side surface of the sound absorber. The frame profile has a bar (6) extending from one side surface of the sound absorber to the other side surface and changing in the region of the side surfaces into an upper end flange and a lower end flange that protrude inward. The frame profile has at least one further inner flange (18-21) protruding inwardly a distance away from the end flanges and bisecting at least one sound-absorbing element.
