The hydro-cyclone and the upstream washer are formed as a closed system and between the individual combined method steps no hydraulic transport is required to transport the solids between the separation in the cyclone and the processing in the washer. The solids collected and treated in the washer are discharged through a discharge system which is moved up so high that the water pressure prevailing inside the cyclone and washer does not raise the water level in the transport device up to the sand discharge point.
