A circuit arrangement for switching a battery charging device. Two controlled switches (5,6) are arranged in the primary-side power circuit of the transformer (1) so that with a switch (5) conductive, a limited current flows and with the other switch conductive, the primary winding is connected without current limiting to the network voltage. A control circuit (8) is provided to effect a lag at switch-on of the battery charging device between switching on of the first (5) and switching on of the second (6) switch.
