The eaves covering (100) for a high-pitched roof has the lowermost row (1) of roof covering elements underlaid by a leaf guard (200) which covers the eaves in flashing fashion, bridging the gap (A) from the suspended gutter. The leaf guard consists of at least one element with a panel element which by a strip-form stop element (6) extending parallel to the front edge (2) is divided into two sections (25), whereby the section on the gutter side forms a support surface (50) for laying a leaf guard grill (40), and the section on the roof ridge side forms another support surface (60) upon which is laid a roof covering element of the lower row.
