A housing(1) encloses a hollow cylindrical filter(2) with an internal chamber(15) and an annular chamber(22) between the filter and housing. The filter(2) rotates inside the housing around an axis(3) and a cleaning system(24) with one or more strippers removes contaminants held on the filter in a radial direction. Strippers are at an angle to the filter(2) and set at a variable angle to the central plane of the filter. Strippers are mounted on a rotating shaft(26) inside the housing(1). The cleaning system includes a motor driven conveyer screw(24) parallel to the filter axis(3) for disposal of contaminants removed from the filter. The filter and conveyer are controlled separately. Strippers and conveying screw are adjacent to each other. The filter(2) comprises a filter tube(11) on a support(12). Openings in the filter tube broaden outwards in the flow direction. The filter is carried on a shaft(4) from which it can be removed. Collecting slots(15) in the shaft which form the inner chamber. Stripper construction comprises a scraper blade pressed onto the filter by a spring or is a sprung blade.
