A dispensing system for packaged items, e.g. packs of cigarettes, has a tray with parallel dispensing grooves each with a separate spring drive to push the items towards the front dispensing point. Each spring drive has a tag on the underside and moving in an individual groove. A servo drive on each tray powers a bent drive on each side of the tray and with a bar connected between the two drives to push all the tags to the rear of the tray to allow refilling of the grooves. After refilling the servo drive returns the bar to the front of the tray and with the spring drives released to press each row of items.
