The chain joint for link chains has two relatively movable sections (1,2) each with two ends interconnected by a longitudinal member. One end forms a spigot with a retaining plate extending over a part of the spigot circumference, and one end has a socket with a fastening slot for the retaining plate. The spigot and the socket have a widening or enlarging cross section extending in the longitudinal direction of the joint. The flanks of the retaining plates are wedge-shaped, and the side wall sections of the fastening slot facing the flanks of the retaining plates have bevels corresponding to the wedge angle.
