The vacuum pump has a number of piston pumps in series. Each has a pump housing (11) with a piston running sleeve (23,24) for a piston (25). The pumps in the same series share a common housing, with a drilling (15) through a center housing section (12), with different piston sizes and running sleeves with a different wall thickness. The piston is a double-piston, with a defined entry zone (31) at the ends, and each half of the piston rides in a dedicated running sleeve.
