The fire barrier curtain for a building room opening (2) has a blind panel (2) which can be deployed from an upper roll of a reel assembly (4). The blind panel has side closures to prevent gas and smoke passing through the blind assembly. The side closures releasably engage in corresponding guides on the window frame. The closures and guides can be connected mechanically, magnetically, electrically or by adhesive.
