The monitor system is for at least one drive chain (1), composed of a number of links (7a-7e) between two end connections (2,3) for cables and the like with relative movements. At least one unit measures the forces and/or other physical parameter at one chain link, with a second unit for measurements at another chain link, in the path of the chain at lower (4) and upper (6) levels and around a deflection (5). The values registered by the measurement units (9a-9e) are passed to an evaluation unit, for comparison with nominal values and to generate a warning signal if the actual forces are outside given tolerances.
