A diesel engine has an exhaust gas sintered metal particle filter consisting of a cylindrical housing with a radial fan-fold array of filter panels about a central gas passage. The cylinder has an end-plate at one end (7) and is open at the other. The fan-fold edges are rest against a number of spokes (10, 11, 12) linking opposite cylinder sidewalls. The spokes are positioned at different levels along the cylinder.
