The alerter comprises a handy housing containing a mobile electronic module which is capable of downloading from a PC auction information relating to a monitored item in an online auction house, and storing the information. The alerter alerts the user, who may be anywhere, to an imminent end of an auction using visual, audible or vibrating means.
