The chamber (14) for the pendulum (72) is U-shaped as seen along the axis of the pendulum shaft, and is filled with a damping fluid. The pendulum has an arcuate weight held at its ends by triangular brackets (66,68) with stiffening ribs (70). Permanent magnets (88) on the shaft are used as part of an angle-measuring system with a magneto-resistive sensor. There is a baseplate (36) holding bearings for the shaft (34) at the top of the housing (10).
