The membrane (2) forms a barrier against toxic substances. A carbon layer (3), which contains carbon in fibre or particle form, is located on the membrane side providing the protection. A protective layer (4) is provided on at least one side of the carbon layer and the material also comprises a textile layer (1) on the outside on the penetration side for the toxic substances. Independent claims are made for a garment, socks, gloves and a sleeping bag made of the filter material.
