A compact cooling unit for compressed air has two heat exchanger blocks (5, 6) in series in a common module (1). Moist air is first ducted through an air to air heat exchanger (5) to warm chilled dry air back to room temperature and is then ducted through a liquid to air heat exchanger (6) where it is chilled. The chilled air is ducted through a separator (37, 39) fitted to the module and with an integral separating drop collector (41) which removes water droplets and ducts collected moisture to a drain. The processed compressed air can be fed directly to pneumatic systems.
