The upper of a shoe includes a watertight functional layer and a connector strip (17) which runs in the circumferential direction of the upper, and incorporates a lower section (25) at least partially overlapping a functional layer zone not covered by the outer material (13) of the upper. The section (25) consists of a liquefiable sealing agent or a material penetrable by a liquid sealing agent. An independent claim is also included for a shoe with the proposed upper.
