An electric tool for trimming the edges of lawns and beds has a steel cutting disc (1) rotating about a horizontal axis and driven by a chain drive from an electric motor mounted inside a support housing (2) above the disc. A protective cowl (3) covers the top of the disc and the disc is constantly maintained by two brushes and two sharpening discs, spaced either side of the cutting disc. The trimmer is operated by an upper grip (4).
