The goggles give a view in direction of swimming when doing the backstroke, and in forward direction when upright. They consist of a frame fastened to the head, with a mirror surface positioned in front of the swimmer's eyes. This is angled so that the swimmer can see the water surface via the reflected light. The mirror surface is partially reflective and partially transparent, and transparency may be variable. It is flat or curved, is treated to be water-repellent, and has individually adjustable dioptric compensation.
