The device (10) to fasten a support element (12) to the roof (16) of a vehicle has a frame element (24) below the opening (19) in the roof skin, a fitting bolt (32) fastened to the support element and fitting through the opening, and a ball joint (26) fastened on the frame element and with a lower (28) and an upper (30) socket element. The ball and upper socket element have an opening (52,54,56) to accommodate the fitting bolt. The lower socket element retains the lower end of the fitting bolt, and the upper socket element supports the roof skin (18) and/or the support element. An independent claim is included for a vehicle equipped with the proposed fastening device to fasten a support element to the roof.
