The torsion bar (2) has a bundle of long elements (4) which in cross section define the contour of the torsion bar. A sleeve (10) encompasses and fixes the bundle of torsion bar elements. The sleeve is made from a plastic or rubber material and may be a shrinkable material which under certain physical conditions changes from an initial state to a shrunk state. The sleeve has such a form stability to fix the cross sectional configuration of the torsion bar.
