The radiant heater for a pig ark comprises a metal plate (130) fitted with heaters (140a, 140b) on one side and a heat-radiating surface (131) on the opposite side. A sheet of aluminum foil (151a) is mounted behind the heaters to reflect heat back to the radiating surface. This is optionally backed by a layer of insulation (150) and a second sheet of aluminum foil (151b).
