A cooling system for an extrusion block has spiral cooling coils (8) around an inner sleeve (3) and connected to the coolant circuit by radial ducts (11 to 17) through the outer housing. The inner sleeve is in sections and has a thin liner (5) which defines the dimensions of the extrusion. The radial cooling ducts are fitted with tubes clamped between alignment blocks at each end. This creates a small gap between the cooling tubes and the housing, enabling a cooling airflow to be injected between the inner sleeve and the housing.
