A nail gun with a safety release for the nails has the nail insertion barrel (30) on the spring loaded mounting and with a nail magazine (40) under the front end of the barrel. The barrel is pressed onto the selected site and pressed back against spring pressure enabling the next nail to be inserted into the barrel. Interlinked levers move a cartridge strip (20) to align the next live cartridge with the rear of the barrel. The user merely presses the barrel onto the selected site and pulls the firing trigger.
