Retractable reactor for removing solid encrustation and biofilm deposit in an open-flow well shaft sprays ozone-enriched water vapor onto affected surfaces
A well shaft insert (32), raised and lowered by winding an insulated cable (36) with a winch (37), connects above ground with a high voltage transformer (12), linked to a compressed gas supply (34,35), for the generation of ozone. The deposit is dispersed with a pressurized, hot, ozone-enriched water vapor jet, without use of chemical agent. A jet of hot water or vapor, preferably ozone enriched, is injected under pressure from a reactor chamber via a nozzle into the water carrier or its associated gravel filter bed, destroying any iron- or manganese-oxidizing bacteria and thus loosening and removing the metallic deposits. Preferably vapor is injected explosively into the direction of water flow through a fine nozzle, emerging as bubbles. The frequency of injection of hot vapor can be adjusted according to a cycle. When fluid in the reactor chamber reaches a specified pressure the valve opens to express vapor explosively; the resulting contraction in the generator draws the valve shut until the pressure rebuilds to repeat the cycle. Enhancements of the invention are also disclosed, incorporating a bypass arrangement with optional backpressure valve and pump. Independent claims are also included for : (1) electrodes resembling sparking plugs, inserted in the flow, to generate the electrical discharge at intervals; and (2) a monitoring camera with light source.
