An electric motor may turn a square-section drive shaft (22) connected to a coupling device (10) with a spring bearing with tapered blocks engaging in a tapered groove to drive a first bevel wheel (20). A pull-cord may engage the drive. A second bevel wheel in mesh with the first turns a winding roller (18) for the sunblind. There is a brake (24) and the whole mechanism is enclosed in a housing (12,14).
