The cambered roller (1), for use in a papermaking machine, has a tubular cast iron mantle (2) with an outer surface cladding. Both ends of the mantle have end pieces (3,4) with bearings (5). Feeds (6) for a coolant are at the inner side of the roller mantle to deliver a coolant (7) to the inner surface. At least one support (9) is at the inner side of the mantle, of a material with a higher thermal expansion factor than the cast iron of the mantle. On an increase of the coolant temperature, the support applies an outer force on the mantle, to form a camber, and the coolant temperature control sets the amount of camber.
