The device for the releasable fastening of one component to another has a fastening element (10) with an anchoring end (12) which is fitted in the second component and locked against inadvertent release, and movable between a freed position in which the first component is fitted on the fastening element or detached from it, and a locked position in which the first component is secured on the fastening. The fastening element has an operating end (43) for movement of the fastening element between the freed and locked positions. An independent claim is included for a component, and especially trim or cover components for fastening to the body or other part of a vehicle by using the proposed fastening device.
