A probe for monitoring medium in a container has a lower casing (1) securable on the container and holding a sensor (4), and a neck section (5) connecting the casing to an upper casing (6) which e.g. holds electronic circuitry. One or more electrical conductors pass from the sensor through the neck, which has a high temp. resistant lower part and an upper part of lower thermal conductivity. The conductors pref. pass sealingly through a recess filled with casting compound (18) in a lower thermal conductivity transverse wall, which may form the lower end of the upper part. The lower part is pref. a metal tube and the second part is of polyether ether ketone (PEEK). The neck may have two spaced metal tube parts (11,24) separated by a PEEK plug (16) and closed at the top by a second PEEK plug (14).
